Okay I will make this short. Technically it was Penelope who knew about the evil goddess trying to resurrect herself and was gonna cause havoc. In order for no one to believe Penelope, the goddess put a curse on her to be hated by everyone. That curse followed her in the real world. She was also hated by everyone. At the end where she defeated the goddess, she saw in the real world that she collapsed and had stomach cancer. She can see her brothers at her bedside table while her father was desperately hiring the best doctor from overseas to treat her. Simply, when her curse was broken, everyone around her started showing their true emotions.
