I saw the raws but can't read. It looks like what he's doing is luring out the traders. He used a sleeping potion on Wolf, to hide him, so he would be safe. He loves him to the point that he would rather be the sacrifice. It did look like he did collaborate with the hated imperfect kings children of the north ahead of time. So they can help take the trades out. While Wolf sleeps he is getting harshly tortured and poisoned, to the point of near death. Red head saves him and nurses him back to health though still weak. He is nearly killed by Red heads mom (?) when Wolf comes for the rescue. Red kills parent and died himself for Shin.
