This is just anecdotes from my Japanese co-workers-- they say the problem is that most Japanese men nowadays are just herbivores ie passive/"unmanly" and don't seem to be interested with IRL sex. So it's not that they like playboy/womanisers but rather they prefer the assertiveness these men have over the passive ones. As a personal observation as well, my Jap friends who have foreign partners seem to have a more balanced relationship in terms of power.

Yes exactly~ I'm white but I've been living and working between the Philippines, Japan and Korea for the past 20 years, and the hiarachy system can go fuck off. Respect based on age is such an outdated concept. It should be earned, not automatically given just because someone is a bit older. When I first started working in Japan, it was a real culture shock because I couldn't go against a senpai (even when he was in the wrong) because he outranked me. And it wasn't just the hiarachy, the sexism and xenophobia was insane. The work culture was so toxic-- we couldn't leave the office until the boss left... Even though we were done with out work for the day! I love Japan, but some parts of the culture is just absolute madness. It's no wonder a lot of Japanese prefer to escape to world of 2D.

Yup, it's similar in my country as well but not that crazy. Somehow Asian girls (most of them, not all) are raised with the mindset from the old tradition that you all you need is beauty, elegance and have just "enough" knowledge so you're not too stupid, but not overwhelming your man at the same time. That leads to the result that we girls are usually passive in terms of the relationship. Same things go with the boy, you have to be strong, have a successful career, handsome and experienced in sex to be considered as a "popular" man. I don't know, that sounds bullshit for me lol. ╮(￣▽￣)╭
