It's most likely the second option, even though there might be a moment when he is dying, but perhaps Iris will come to save him in his last moment in some way and they'll love happily for the test of their lives.

since he gave his life for her resurrection, does that mean he will die in this lifetime instead of her?... or.... will something happen, like, to cross-cancel that end of the deal so that he and iris end up happily married and living together?
