I get it. It can just be a bit frustrating, you know? Nothing towards you! But, as a "reads history for fun sometimes" type, I always get so frustrated when people seem to tear down a work or story because of modern morals. Now, I have lines that I hate being portrayed too, like sexism, rape romantization, ACTIVE pedophilia (like, oooh she's/he's five but I'd love to-), stuff like that.
But when a fantasy world follows the norms of "hey, she is really nice, but I better wait until she's older before thinking of her in THAT way. But she is cute, she'll probably be gorgeous when she grows up. I cant wait to woo her" I feel it is more realistic and thus enticing to read. It's like watching historical societal norms play out right before my eyes.
I went on a bit of a spiel there, sorry. But, I guess what I am saying is that it's perfectly reasonable to mentions how it compares to modern society. But PLEASE put a disclaimer for how it's based on a previous time period. Knowing that stories are being dropped because of this is disheartening in a way.
