He's strong enough that he will grow from his mistakes. (Spoiler) at the end of the novel, he sincerely wishes Ed happiness and says that he wants nothing more from Ed than for him to be happy.
It's not enough for Ed, but I think it shows that he's a big man and will grow from this.

I feel bad for chang, not just because I know his love for ed will never be accepted but because his decisions, in the past is now hitting him, I just wish someone will be there for him, author pls stop chang's suffering, and also I wish that ed and mcqeen's relationship will improve more, I just wish everyone happiness
