Same i was thinking the same thing too! But I feel that it's Leonard transcending through Lily's world,thinking it was his dreams, and meeting her there.
I want a face reveal for the past lover. I think there will be some plot twist there or maybe I just read so many cliché stories that I started thinking this way whenever there's a face of an important person that isn't drawn.
