dude she wasn't in love with rowan she just wanted to be duchess. The crown prince said that she needed to kill erin to live and maybe become queen. Since she was born as an high status noble i doubt she would have survived as a commoner. As you know nobody is perfect and when you see her situation only remembering her past life will help her. Claire was influenced by everyone around her to become duchess or marry someone high status as you see in one chapter where she was ignored by rowan and then her brother told her you'll be the duchess anyway. She was raised in a corrupted society where people only cared about power, wealth and looks. There are people who don't believe in this way of life like the former duchess (rowan's mother). It's wrong to hit on a married man and i agree with that. But don't you think she would just give up on rowan and marry a powerful figure. There's evidence there she did the dirty work for the Crown Prince just to be queen knowing fully well he was a bad person. That's whats puzzles me she could have just married a powerful figure and left. And don't you blame her for trying to kill erin she clearly said that she was going to die herself and she is no wrong if erin hadn't met the duke. The duke out of pressure would marry her and remember the plot. The duke married erin because of Magic i doubt without it he would kept her alive and we all know erin wouldn't lie like that. No character is perfect claire is one of them deep characters . The duke knows he had a tragic childhood because society say so but claire is in a toxic society. You first need to understand the problem to grow claire will never learn because her life is deemed normal but privileged around her. You really need to learn how to inference.

1) she was/is in love with him 2) i will blame her for trying to kill erin, she and the prince are both at fault. you're not going to willingly murder someone just because someone tells you too 3) if she wanted to marry a powerful figure she would have done so, but she spent her time chasing after him so no. And NO the duke would NOT have married her, he already broke off with her bc he 1) didn't like her 2) realized it was a trap for him. Whether he met Erin or not, they were never getting together. Stop bootlicking Claire, I don't need to understand her situation m8, I've read it, there's no excuse.
All caught up.
Even if she's being forced she should know if she killed Erin Rowan will just hate her even more!! That won't make him like her at all!! In fact HE would probably KILL her himself if she killed Erin!! Her options are to 1) don't kill Erin and get killed by Crown Prince 2) kill Erin and get killed by Rowan. Wouldn't she rather die in the hands of Rowan at least?!?! She is lucky Rowan showed up and she has a small leeway to excuse and explain herself by saying she was forced and ordered by Crown Prince.
She makes no sense. And clearly Erin is married to him and she clearly sees how Rowan treats her, for her to say "what do you know?!" makes NO sense. She's the one who knows nothing. This also would have been a good opportunity for Erin to say "he wouldn't have married you anyways. It was a forced arrange marriage. If he never bough you luxury items then while you were engaged, what makes you think he'd do it now." To at least try to wake her up.
She's completely contradicting herself and tunnel visioned it's scary. I don't pity Lady Palladine, she's a terrible person and I want her to rot. But at least come to her senses and just be an evil person, not be evil and delusional refusing to acknowledge her actions and errors. Killing someone isn't going to earn you kindness or love. It does the opposite.
