I think it's because drawing is associating with an otaku. So in Japan an otaku is saw differently.. and the majority dislike people who are like that...

In Korea, there's usually prejudice against Japanese things, so it would probably be worse being seen as an otaku.

As Asia I can understand the parents pov, as they usually say "artistic job" has no worth. But the prejudice by the young generation just have no sense to me （￣へ￣）
