i don't want to ruin your ship or anything, feel free to ship whoever you want,, but it's disclosed that ryan was a victim of rape in the past, which is why he shot that movie with mcqueen, to try and overcome his fear. on the other hand, chang is literally a rapist (call it what you want, but he had non-consensual sex with ed). so personally i don't think that a victim of rape and a rapist would be the best match tbh

dude mcqueen didn't rape ryan, he simply profited off ryan's wanting to overcome the fear of being raped (which is why ryan agreed to shoot the movie with him.) the reason ryan hates mcqueen so much is because he feels that mcqueen took advantage of him, which is fair enough imo.
the marginal difference between mcqueen and chang is that chang literally had intercourse with ed AGAINST HIS WILL, whereas mcqueen just took advantage of ryan's PTSD (assuming that he was raped by someone in the past, though it might just be a phobia.) not saying that it makes it any better though, and i think that ryan has every right to resent mcqueen, but mcqueen did NOT rape him.

100% agree with the first part. what mcqueen did to ryan was EXTREMELY selfish and harmful. by no means am i saying that what he did was justifiable!! and yes, as you stated, it isn't the book definition of rape, but the effects on ryan's mental well-being would be the same, if not worse.
where the situation differs from what happened between ed + chang is that ryan AGREED to participate in the porno. he may have been in dire need of cash, he may have had no other choice but to accept,, but either way RYAN GAVE MCQUEEN HIS CONSENT!!! that's all i've been tryna say.
chang and mcqueen are the same in the fact that they both took advantage of someone's financial state and mentality. honestly, i don't think either one is the better person.
