*also i am summarising this from memory so some events are probably mixed up but it’s generally what happened from what i’ve read*





so the wife of the seme tries to get shen yu to lose the king’s favour on his own, and shen yu(who at this point already likes the king) agrees because the queen threatens to tell the king his gender(and shen yu does it on the pretence that the king doesn’t know that he’s a man and that the king will not love him if he finds out that shen yu is indeed a man)
things happen and shen yu tries and fails to make the zenbei king stop with the awarding him of his title and the queen gets mad at him(the usual stuff)
the king still proceeds with the coronation saying that even if shen yu doesn’t like him anymore he still won’t let him go and on the day of the promotion of shen yu the queen exposes that he was a man and shen yu thought that he was done for but to his surprise(and also no ones) the zenbei king knew that he was a male and still granted him the title the hidden concubine.

ok so now the emperor is here, the zenbei king wants to divorce his queen and the queen wants to stay. the emperor decides to help the queen(his sister) and they plan to ruin shen yu’s reputation.
the king goes to shen yu’s palace(or manor) and he(who is not gay, like actually) sees shen yu carving the beans and waiting for the zenbei king. basically he’s smitten and envies of the zenbei king. shen yu notices him and the emperor says that he is lost and shen yu rushes him out knowing the zenbei king’s protectiveness and jealousy.

next they go hunting (the emperor, the king and the queen /its been a while since she was out because of the whole shen yu coronation thing/) and the emperor suggests that they bring shen yu and the king agrees because it would be disrespectful not to and the emperor says a more exaggerated version of their meeting(that was previously mentioned) and the zenbei king is noticeably annoyed. shen yu joins them but unlike the queen because of his weak body he stays in a carriage looking at them from far away with the king’s most trusted guard. shen yu wants to join in and be happy with the zenbei king so he asks the guard to teach him horseback riding. the guard disagrees but after a while he agrees. shen yu then gets on a horse and things happen and the zenbei king sees them and gets jealous yet again. so he orders shen yu to go back to the carriage and shen yu thinks he’s ashamed of him. some “huns” came and the emperor and the zenbei king fights them and the guard was ordered to take shen yu out of the mountain to safety. as they were running away shen yu hears the queen shouting for help and convinces the guard to stop the carriage and let her in so they can run away and help the queen. the guard disagrees at first but then agrees because shen yu was determined and she’s the queen. shen yu helps the queen onto the carriage despite his weak body and the fact that huns were chasing them. and after the queen gets on and the carriage starts moving again the queen pushes shen yu off the carriage and shen yu falls down a cliff.

the zenbei king defeats the huns and they find out that shen yu was not in the carriage and he starts to look for him. the emperor asks the queen what she did and she tells him and the emperor starts to look for shen yu down the cliff and finds him, he takes shen yu in a cave and takes care of him for the night and the emperor was enticed so he stole a kiss from shen yu and shen yu(used to the fact that the king is a beast even when he’s asleep) kisses back thinking that it was the king of zenbei. shen yu wakes up with a fever and pushes the emperor away and in the morning he gets out the cave with the help of the emperor and meets the zenbei king standing near the cliff, he runs to the zenbei king, glad that he was looking for him, and the zenbei king pushes him off saying that “how was it spending the night with the emperor” and leaves shen yu confused and upset.

couple of things happen and the king visits shen yu one last time after his fever subsided and never visited him again. shen yu still waits for the zenbei king everyday but nowadays the zenbei king spends his time with this guy google translates as slave prostitute or something. he’s flamboyant and has no shame and you can kind of ship him with the guard. he was hired by the queen to enter the kings bed and he’s deemed as the king’s current favourite since shen yu has “fallen out of favour”
shen yu goes to the zenbei king with the beans from his mother and basically gives the zenbei king the symbol of his love and what sybolises his heart and the zenbei king steps on it twice and the beans and the dice shape thing is now broken and cannot be salvaged. shen yu feels that the zenbei king not only stepped on the beans but also his heart.
he picks the beans up and after some time(the king has already left) goes back to find the zenbei king, and finds him with the man who has now replaced shen yu. this is what made shen yu open his eyes.

after this shen yu moves into a shed and he did a lot of servant work for a few months and only ate leftovers from the kitchen. a man then (under the guise of the king) takes shen yu away to some valley or something because the king wants to talk to shen yu, shen yu filled with his last remnants of his naivety packs up and follows the man.
the zenbei king on the way to the temple with the queen sees the carriage and stops it. he orders the one inside to come out and the man orders shen yu to not. shen yu hears the zenbei king and stops writing his letter and comes out and the man basically plays a scene where he and shen yu are in love and are eloping, but shen yu’s confused and knows nothing about this.
the king is visibly furious and he orders that the man is to be killed and shen yu is to be tortured(kind of) btw this is just one of the queen’s multiple plans.

after this shen yu completely gives up and the only thing keeping him alive is his mother so he decides to leave the palace and go back to his mother. he gives the zenbei king a list of what he’s done and begs the zenbei king to let him go and give him money, the zenbei king gets mad and throws him gold and he asks if this is really what he wanted and shen yu says something along the line of “i just have one question, did you ever love me?” and the zenbei king answers that he never loved shen yu and only liked him because of his face. shen yu leaves the castles and goes to the shen manor to find his mom.

apparently his mom was taken away so he rushes to the king to beg for his mother back and that he’d do anything and the king gets angry and says “if i wanted to keep you here i wouldn’t use such underhanded methods, i’d just lock you up.” the guard also begs on behalf of shen yu and he was called to discuss something with the king and shen yu was left outside waiting.

a man approaches shen yu saying something about the king and that he needs to follow him and shen yu, learning from previous experiences, does not even when the crest of the king was shown to him. he wanted to stay and wait for the guard to come back and the man uses martial arts on him to capture him. shen yu then wakes up basically kidnapped by the queen in the prostitution tower to the now favoured man of the king(im just gonan call him sp for slave prostitute so yeah idk his name since he hasn’t been mentioned in actual translations yet), the queen orders the men she employed to rape shen yu and SP saves him and tells the men to do what they were going to do with shen yu to the queen.

basically months past and the tower was burned down and shen yu’s now in the capital in the hands of the emperor. he now hates the smell of any man other than the zenbei king but he has now cultivated a hatred for the king even though he still loves him he does not like him(as in what he did and his personality and him in general) and shen yu can now read and is very different from his previous self. (some other things happen and the emperor and the zenbei king are now in the state of war and with the help of shen yu the zenbei king is captured)

basically character development happens and it’s actually pretty good. he doesn’t turn into jelly whenever the zenbei king appears in front of him and it’s pretty consistent, he hates the zenbei king even though he still loves him and he doesn’t forgive him easily(at least from what i’ve read so far.

it’s still not finished this is basically just the start of the 2nd half and yeah i’m going to stop here before my hands fall off,
