Man, this got me feeling emotional.. I hope that they once will find happiness without having to fill it by stories. Reading is a good way of filling the void, but it can also turn into an addiction.

Man, this got me feeling emotional.. I hope that they once will find happiness without having to fill it by stories. Reading is a good way of filling the void, but it can also turn into an addiction.
There once was a girl next to me. She always read manga from a specific genre. One day i asked her, “What are you reading?”
“I’m reading yaoi,” she answered honestly. Then I continued on my question, “Why do you read yaoi, isn’t it weird?”
And what she said next hit me.
“I read it to fulfill my happiness. Knowing this happiness is a recreation called distraction, i still read it. Such things will never happen to me, i’ll never have a life like the fictional characters. This makes me want to read their stories and feel part of their love, and yes, it’s sad. Seeing others being happy even though they’re fictional characters gives me mixed feelings.
But this is my way to feel loved.”
