I think most "regular females" aren't going to be easily swept off their feet by a guy who says things like "don't expect a loving husband. If you can't meet those conditions, then disappear from my sight now" and "don't expect any affection from me" and ignores us for a year before suddenly deciding to be in love.
The emperor isn't getting the short end of anything. She's giving him EXACTLY what he asked for when they first got married. Had she been the one to fall in love before he did and say things like "I have an interest in you" etc, by his own admission he'd have kicked her to the curb.
But because now HE wants them to be in love she's suppose to immediately reciprocate? Pass.

oh I tot's get that and I'm not even going to touch on how hot and cold his character is, talk abt whiplash!, but if he's now over the moon he's now gonna be stuck w/all the whiplash these 2 girls are going to put him through. I just don't know that I'd consider him being enough of a douche or dick to deserve it since the most I've seen so far is him being rude w/his bluntness and cold to his wife. other than that though I've seen WAAAAAAY worse and more A**holes deserving of this particular hell (●'◡'●)ﾉ
Right! I'm not saying he needed to have been romantic and affectionate with her from day one, but don't be such an arrogant ass.
I think "The Evil Lady Will Change" does such a good job of showing an arranged-marriage-to-true-love where the couple have that 'don't expect love' conversation, but it's done well. Mostly because there it's a CONVERSATION, not the ML telling the FL, 'have zero expectations or gtfo'. The ML and FL sit down together and the ML tells the FL that he respects and admires her but that this is an arranged marriage so don't expect them to be in love and the FL is like "that's legit. ditto."
And even if they're not in love/don't expect to ever be in love, he still shows her respect, kindness, and support. He doesn't wait until after he's in love to suddenly decide she's now worthy of those things. So when they do fall in love it feels natural and also he doesn't have to go overboard bending backwards to get her affection.
I mean even the emperor's aids were like 'I wouldn't marry your punk ass'

Well the guys is pretty cold, doesn't know how to express his emotions. Honestly I feel like he is a robot that suddently started feeling feelings and doesn't understand what they are.
I mean I would only expect a robot to tell their wife not to love them and that they don't want a queen. The only way to make him more robotic would be if he said "Hello fellow human, we do not do emotions in this household. You have been assigned possition X and shall remain in it. Thank you, I must get back to my work, I shall see next year. Have a good day. "
So I get that this is a bit of a plot twist but I fully suspect that he may not be a human and no one will ever change my mind.

getting the short end a' the stick here ya know? so breaking this down he's got a queen who wants NOTHING to do w/him but he's head over HEELS for her and he's got some no name what's it who is head over heels for HIM all because he DIDN'T glare at her ONE time and invaded her personal space ONCE?! sooooo he's got one girl easily impressed possible turned stalker, since reading WAY tooooo much into a simple thing is DEFINITELY classic obsessive stalker MO, and one whose never impressed by anything he does? poor guy is going to be SOOOOO confused by what constitutes an actual regular person, let along female, by the end of all this.
