Mr. Kang was really counting on YiYoung on being bold. YiYoung left a very strong impression when they met for the very first time. So, Mr. Kang was waiting for that side to immerge.
And as for why he was dropping subtle hints then played it off as misunderstanding was because I think he's always done that, and his partners always react within his expected boundaries. And YiYoung would've too. If he didn't genuinely like Mr. Kang. And that's why it was so unexpected & surprising for Mr. Kang.
I still dislike him for making YiYoung cry though. :(
Yes but the mix of all his actions is going iverboard.
Even if doing small hints was always his way to go with his partners.
It’s not the same situation with someone you clearly told : we will never do it again.
And even if Yiyoung didn’t like him, it’s pretty stupid to expect Yiyoung to deny Mr Kang when he said : it was all a misunderstanding. ESPECIALLY considering (once again) that Mr Kang told him it was a one time thing.
At that point and in that situation it’s just absurd for him to expect Yiyoung to deny the misunderstnading.
I don't think he was waiting for YiYoung to deny the misunderstanding.
He wanted YiYoung to be bold & flirty. And ask to continue a physical relationship, by blaming Mr. Kang for dropping hints. (As explained in the little daydream Mr. Kang has)
And I think he was expecting this behaviour for three reasons,
1. YiYoung was bold & flirty the first time they met.
2. Mr. Kang's exes have been like this. Wanting a casual relationship. And he's always pursued, I'd assume.
3. He never considered YiYoung would like him genuinely. That's why he's caught off-guard.
It's just a matter of different perspectives. I think that's why the author thought it was important to give a run down of what Mr. Kang was thinking about the situations.
From YiYoung's perspective, Mr. Kang said it's a one time thing but then later treated YiYoung really good (like made breakfast, etc). So he became really hopeful. He started thinking there's a chance they could date because he started liking Mr. Kang. And for him Mr. Kang's hints were really too subtle, so he never caught them. That's why finally when Mr. Kang says it's a misunderstanding he was heartbroken.
From Mr. Kang's perspective, after they had sex he understood it was amazing. So he already didn't mean it when he said it's a one time thing (not that YiYoung would know this). Then he started thinking YiYoung will definitely ask for more (he's really confident about his prowess LoL). His hints were something meant as encouragement & provocation to push YiYoung into finally making a move. He was doing all of this because he was only thinking about having a sexual relationship. So, he didn't expect YiYoung to like him at all. (He even said how could YiYoung like him after all the 'awful things'). I think he didn't want to ask YiYoung himself because he didn't want things to be complicated or messy. And he was prepared to give up if YiYoung didn't appear interested (in having sex). So in the end, he didn't consider the possibility of dating.
It was just, 1. YiYoung ask for sex & Mr. Kang agree. 2. YiYoung didn't appear interested & things end.
It doesn’t really matter.
Kang’s way of thinking (if he dont approache me then he isn’t interested) is already stupid enough
and in this situation it’s too much because it’s obvious Yiyoung is interested since he asked for it the 2nd time.
Then Kang’s plan to pretend it was a misunderstanding and expecting Yiyoung to just go past that.
It was completely worthless to do that, and quite humiliating.
And there was no reason for him to *know* Yiyoung would do as he imagined.

Don’t take me wrong, i really love this story
But once again, Mr Kang acted very weird for the sake of the plot :
When they had sex, he said *its a one time thing*, and it was only to make up for the first time.
Then he expects the uke to make the first move, even though his *hints* were nothing concrete. If the uke don’t make the first move, he assumes the uke ain’t interested (which is stupid considered he made it clear he wouldn’t hook up again).
THEN, when the uke actually do the first step, he acts like his hints were a misunderstanding, AND ONCE AGAIN, expects the uke to take another step and denying that fact.
Like dude... the uke can’t read your mind... you are making it way too hard.
