in the novel kina gets jealous of sarielle and pushes her onto the train tracks at the station and Gary goes to save her by grabbing sarielle's arm and flinging her back on the platform basically sacrificing himself. Ryle sees Gary falling and runs to go save him before he hits the ground. Ryle proceeds to do the same thing that Gary did for sarielle and ryle's arm hits the tracks really hard. then the train arrives killing ryle on the spot. when the third lifetime starts juju discovers that jin is also dead meaning her most likely killed himself so that he didn't need to live another full life without juju
