IMO it’s more likely that he was rich, bc he said something about not being able to go back bc there’s no-one for him. It could also be one of those situations where he is rich but is treated badly in his home that he can’t even have his own money I’m not 100% sure tho

I think part of it too could be that he might think he’s relying on his wealth too much but doesn’t want to, wants to try and do stuff on his own, I noticed t today when his manager said he could become famous just with his looks but he said he wanted to work with his skills.
