I'm not knowledgeable about African cultures, nor I come from a place where I can learn about their cultures. However, I think this manga did a good job of drawing an African person. His features might not be the close ( I mean the Japanese people don't look like Japanese either), but I think the mangaka did with respect or at least did some research. I'm always worried when I see a manga with foreigners in the plot. They usually have tons of stereotypes or satire that make them unlikeable (/TДT)/

His appearance looks nothing “African” but as long as the author is consistent with all the African characters looking similar to Luca as a default and not the usual princely native among the ugly savages that A LOT of Asian authors resort to, then it won’t be the typical culturally ignorant and exploitative manga we’ve come to expect from Asian authors. And while African people of the continent come in all different shapes, sizes, and body tones Luca is manga pretty by Japanese audience standards specifically.
