I think it is more of she was evil but at the end deeply regretting doing all those things. I think she was regretting them as she was doing them but kept all those feelings locked deep inside her so she wouldn't feel them and because she thought it was the only way to survive
its not the cliche at which the "villainess" is good, but framed as evil, but its more of shes evil, but she has compassion o_o
