why do american characters kiss people randomly like we're not affectionate like that lmao unless with lovers. honestly this would be a better stereotype for latinos considering we do cheek kisses as a greeting :P

Right? I don't know about why they think here in the states kissing is the norm when it comes to greeting. It's usually a handshake or a hug when it comes to greeting people here (well based on my experience)

Actually... I'm latina and at least here we do cheek kiss even strangers or just say hi with no contact at all

I'm latina american and from my experience whenever I meet other latinos we cheek kiss (even when meeting for the first time). Usually I don't when I'm meeting non-latinos just the standard handshake or hug. These are based on my experience not that it's always true for everyone. I just meant it would make a better stereotype/trope if it were latino charcters to be overly affectionate and kissing instead of white american characters in manga/anime. Since I live here in america and there isn't any hot blonde and blue eye guys kissing me for no reason XD

Well it’s a stereotype, it probably cane from an exaggeration of westerners behaviour. Some Europeans kiss on the cheek when they meet each other (even for the first time), if you are a foreigner maybe you are gonna think that every single European country does this, or maybe the opposite, depending on the country you are more familiar with.

I think this stereotype was created from manga authors themselves (I have read a lot of them with this premise) , maybe they were trying to underline the difference between Japanese and westerners. As they are not westerners, the only thing they could do creating someone who is not from Japan and making it more believable for the Japanese’s viewers ( apart from drawing them with blond hair and blue eyes) was exaggerating their qualities and relying on stereotypes. Easy peasy hahahah

I know I see this in so many anime/manga I'm just like someone must have met a random american who kissed them and now we have this ongoing stereotype lmao

I don’t think he was suppose to be portrayed as an American, America is a melting pot and because of the features I see he has I’m thinking he’s probably somewhere from Europe instead.
