It’s not about that either, but it shows a sense of responsibility. I’m not anyone’s mom and I don’t expect to be taken care of but a man that has everything together is a man I’d rather be with than taking care of someone.

My father had a job, an apartment, and a great personality. But he also had a gambling addiction and a penchant for cheating that he hid extremely well. So well that when my mom was divorcing him for it, people were shocked and she was the talk of the town for "maybe she's making that shit up".
That doesn’t relate to what they’re saying though. They’re saying it’s smart to be in a relationship with a responsible adult because it’s not fair that you have to mother them when it should be an equal partnership. Someone with a gambling addiction is not a responsible adult.
