Wait a sec: it's ok to do terrible (and unexcusable) things when you're an adult, but it's unforgivable to do not even remotely terrible things when you're a child?
Or... since when is rape excusable? When it happens to other people?
How was what Ed did as a child "taking advantage of" the old lady? Wasn't it even said in the story that having Ed nearby enabled her to overcome her depression? He'd be taking advantage of her if he took her money, for instance. But, as I see it, it was a situation as pure as it could be: Ed and grandma needed to both give and receive love, and that's what they did, even if she couldn't see he wasn't chang's brother.
I don't like chang but when you think about it if your sibbling died and your family's dynamic changed because of the trauma, having someone come in and pretend to be your dead sibbling and seeing your grandma go back to normal because she can't accept that your sibbling is dead meanwhile your the only one who sees the imposter for who they are and have to come to terms with your sibbling being dead without any support from your family. Thats really hard and can be psychologically and emotionally draining. It doesn't excuse him for what he did though but Ed aint no saint either even if he was lonley taking advantage of someones mental state is never okay.
