Empress Ilya and Liza are the current emperor's first and second wives respectively. Empress Ilya has no children while Liza has a son (Prince Louis). Ian (aka Duke Valenciaga) is the son of the current emperor's elder brother (and who also was the previous emperor but he and his wife, Ian's mother are both dead). However Ilya loves Ian as her own son, but has not chosen to adopt him for some reason. Both Ilya and the current emperor want Ian to succeed to the throne, but Liza wants Louis to succeed.
