I didn't realize a noble status could be bought. Doesn't that mean anyone with enough money can become a noble??

Lol, it doesn't really work like that. Nobility titles are granted by the King (or Queen), so as a rule you cannot buy them regardless of the money. But Alejandro's case is different because he is a Duke. Dukes are usually direct relatives of royalty or have very close relations with royalty. Their influence is also vastly larger than that of a regular aristocrat. You usually can't purchase a noble title, but for a Duke it might be not that far fetched. Also, noble titles are not all created equal. They have several levels, from the Knight or Dame to the Duke and Archduke. Knighthood titles are usually given to people as recognition for achievements (think Sir Ian McKellen, Sir Anthony Hopkins, Dame Judy Dench, Dame J. K. Rowling), and are fairly easy to come by. Same with baronet and baron titles. They are minor nobility and not too influential in the great scheme of things. Alejandro doesn't need Ibee to be influential, he just need her to have a noble background so that people (and thus Ibee) will not frown or be scandalized when he marries her. Acquiring a Dame or Baroness title for her should be fairly simple.

    what a well written explanation!

Did kind of figure that some of the titles were more for looks/status than of actual importance seeing as there are formalities to gain a title of some sorts outside of just marrying in/being born.

Ibee may be a bit of a ditz with where she thinks her position is in terms of the story but at least we have Alejandro taking the right steps to get her in the best position ready for society lol

I'm going to have one small disagreement bout the title thing. While yes it is the queen or king that grants the titles, there are so many lost baronies and lower noble titles that they actually CAN be bought. In fact throughout history, quite a few titles of nobility were bought. And he would still be frowned upon if her noble status isn't high enough, so at the least she should be a countess.

Usually, other than Duke (which is granted as I said almost exclusively to the descendants of royalty) most nobility titles are based on merit, usually military, but also sometimes political, cultural, intellectual and yes, even financial, but this one only in very specific cases and always with a workaround, so that it doesn't sound like somebody actually bribed their way into a title. It's usually listed as "services to the crown" as reason. Alejandro could have taken this approach: donate a large amount of money to the government as a "charitable act" or a "sign of loyalty" and for his efforts he is granted a small token of "appreciation." Dame and Sir titles don't come with any monetary reward or territory so giving them literally costs the crown nothing. And baron and baronet titles, although they come with a territory, it doesn't require said territory to be large, prosperous or even well kept, so again they are receiving a large amount of money in exchange for pretty much a piece of paper.
