So my theory is that It's showing events of the past (the flower shop scenes) The military thing is I believe what is happening to them now.
Blonde and Isaac met 4 years earlier, and Isaac had gone into heat incidentally and ended up fucking with blonde. Isaac ditched his last job and now 4 years later he's a florist. Blonde doesn't remember anything that happened though so he doesn't realize who he's (aggressively) hitting on. Spoiler:

Minor correction, Felix could not see isaacs face because it was dark. Isaac knows who Felix is but Felix never got to see Felix.
felix never got to see isaac* but thanks for the correction! Just assumed that the darkness wasn't a factor in him not recognizing cuz of how bright the illustration was hehe

And yeah! They could have done that better! This is like my 10th time reading it (I never read it in English) and I barely noticed Felix walked under a window that was letting in light (so he was illuminated) then during sex, most of the time isaacs face is o my half drawn, darkened, or he’s looking away. It’s too subtle!
