I don't think that makes sense. They want Owen to like Kyle so he can dump him. Would be kinda weird if Riley thinks that this will work without a little touching at least.
Have you forgotten that Owen's ex is the friend? What do you think Owen will do if he finds out that he is acquainted to Kyle? Isn't it where the drama will come from? But then again, it's just my predictions. ^_^
