I mean with Dan-it's case I don't think that she treats her friends like that because she thinks she's ugly or in a different league with them, but I think it's the fact that she's more scared of being forgotten by them, in the original story she wasn't meant to stand out. But because of events shes friends with popular, good looking guys. I haven't read the story for a while so I might be innacurate but the fact that she carries a mental toll with her everywhere she goes will affect her relationship with her friends...
