Really great point you have made here for anyone reading this that is either thinking of quitting of knows someone that wants to quit. "Cold turkey" does not work, and usually the person the person that tries that way thinks they are weak for it not working, but like any drug (be it illegal or legal), needs to be tapered safely until the person is no longer mentally and physically attached. Thanks for posting!

Yes ofcourse, everything depends person to person. Also people should consider alternatives to smoking, like chewing gum and sometimes workout helps too, but it varies. Sex shouldn’t be an alternative to smoking either. People really should seek medical/professional help if they are serious about quitting any kind of long term drug dependency

Hey sorry to butt in, but healthcare-related student here. Yes I agree that quitting cold turkey is difficult, and most people fail. However, quitting smoking is not as dangerous as quitting alcohol, if you want to compare. The addictive part of cigarettes is the nicotine, so if someone wants to stop smoking they should consider using nicotine replacement therapies (NRTs). Lots of people think nicotine is the cause of lung cancer or any lung-related problems, which is not true. There are many types of NRTs e.g. gum, patch, lozenge, so there are ways to keep our mouth busy during that time too. The combination of NRT and support can really boost the chances of someone succeeding to quit smoking.
Unfortunately cutting down doesn't work. Cigarette smokers are used to a certain dose of nicotine every day to help, so if they try to cut down on cigarettes, they just smoke them "more efficiently" to try and get as much nicotine as they can (called 'compensatory smoking', and eventually they can just go back to the number of cigarettes they used to smoke.
PM me or reply to my message if you want any more info, I just wanted to correct a point on this post.

Hi WanderingMind(btw, love your name), thanks for the input of a current health student! If I was the reason for your excellent comment, my apologies, for that means that my rush to comment led not being clear (though a positive was this comment from you).
As a personal aside, years, and I mean YEARS ago, I quit smoking smoking not from health related concerns but out of cheapness and used a mix of medication and sugar free candy for the oral fixation part. Reading this last chapter had me wish that the doctor I was working with back then was still here, so that we could have a huge chuckle over the idea of oral sex fixing oral fixation for smoking cessation!! hehehehe
Hope everyone has a great (and safe) day!
Ahaha its all so cute, but its really not recommended that you leave smoking like this. You need to taper. First two weeks one smoke a day, second two weeks one smoke per two days, third two weeks one smoke per three days, and like this you will oneday reach a point where you smoke just once a month. You shouldnt quit smoking like this all together or you will suffer from withdrawal symptoms.
