they aren't related tho? the entire moral problem with incest is that your child can have defects. and neither of them view each other as a sibling (gilbert obviously liking her and since she's already lived once i imagine the relationship to her is like having a close male friend), so it really isnt incest in the literal or even the reaching sense?

Well they weren't born together. They met each other later and each knowing that they arent siblings. Im sure they say it for formalities or to bond.
Lol fun fact in vietnamese we call EVERYONE a few years older bothers and older sisters and if they are younger. We call them our youger siblings. So to me calling lables are just lables.
Gil was just brought into the family from another branch. I could be wrong but i dont remember it saying they adopted him. Also when i read these stories where a branch members come in, they also leave when they grow older to go back to thier respective place.
We dont see much or know much. Like i dont remember seeing him call the fl's parents his parents. Is he really adopted or just placed there temporarily? Did they explain all this?

Gil was adopted but he wasn't adopted from birth so he knows his birth family and he knows he's not really the fl's brother.
i mean , they might not be blood related but her feelings for him are def. platonic / family ,,, it's still really weird if the story turned out that way
