No... He cut it cause he's starting a new life and getting over chiaki. Actually he's story is fucking tear-jerking TT_TT. He's backstory is so sad and heart wrenching. And he found somebody whole loved him. I actually prefer his story, cause its awesome as hell.
Yh I also think he grew his hair because chiaki has long hair and he wanted to match with him awe
