I don't think its that bad. At the time he thought that, he did not yet know that the letter said that the wife was dying. He only knew that a letter had kept him from getting closer to the uke. If you remember when he read the letter he told the uke to go back back home. I think it's like getting a phone call when the moments getting good. The seme gets annoyed then gets serious as soon as he finds out what the calls about.
What turned me off was the scene at Natori wife's grave... just tasteless. Actually, the scene when he received the telegram and he thought something like "...and the mood was getting good too." Just disgusting.
