Yo I felt the same. The plot went from sugar and spice to thrust and slice ಠ_ಠ
but we all saw that coming, Aseph has enemies clearly and in the first book he had a devil seal, and when there is devils there must be fight
It's like the author had a sudden brainwave and the genre took a rapid change-- the mood of the latest chapter is so different
