I like him, too. I feel like no one realizes that Ayaka is emotionally manipulating him. Of course he has some choice in it, but she seems to has convinced him that the failure of the relationship is solely his fault. And, while it wasn't a romantic relationship, I know what that's like. I feel horrible for him. I also think there is a possibility some don't "see it" is because Hasumi is a man, but that's just speculation.
