So basically:
Eunjae is being targeted by Hwan (ghostly creature) because after getting badly injured by Geumsan in the past, it needs to consume a human close to the spirit world to regain its strength.
Eunaje was supposed to die one night but was saved by San. Since then, San's been protecting him because the bond between Eunjae’s soul/body is weak, making him a perfect target for the ghost (that was also feeding off his grief after his family and dog died).
704 was suspicious about the circumstances around Eunjae’s incident and found out that his boss Yama and Geumsan (San’s mentor) have been working together in secret to stop Hwan. Yama set a trap by luring San away from Eunjae which left him vulnerable and Hwan attacked him. After rushing back, San (and another goblin, sent by Yama) fought Hwan, who disappeared after San shot him with a bow and arrow.
It looks like in the latest ch we’re starting to learn more about who/what San was in the past. There was an accident 20 years ago which left him without his memories. We still don't have all the answers about all that....Yama said the accident was 704’s fault but Geumsan says it wasn’t, while 704 himself feels guilty and has been protective of San ever since.
In the meantime, Eunjae recovered from being attacked and he and San just confessed. Meanwhile Geumsan has gone to find out from Yama why he put everyone in danger……

No, San is a goblin. It’s just that he might not be any o’l goblin. From what Yama said in this chapter, because of Geumsan’s scent being on San, he (Hwan) wasn’t able to recognize him. Instead he thought he was just another goblin following Geumsan’s orders. Because if he knew it was San, he wouldn’t have tried to kill him or go after Eunjae. San might have been a powerful goblin before he lost his memories. Plus, San carries a lot of the goblins traits, such as being able to manifest objects out of thin air. And he eats energy like every other goblin. Yama was just saying Hwan is scared of San, not that he wasn’t a goblin.
