İ looks at different perspective. İn my language we say "even snake won't touch human who is drinking". Like people should respect/ doesn't intervene each other when they drinking/eating.

if the line translated to "you wont even touch a dog when you eat", i think it's literal. there are a lot of people who view dogs/cats/fur/etc to be gross and dirty, and they won't touch them, especially not when they are eating their own food
