I consider myself and my fellow Norwegians very clean and hygenic, but I’ve never considered showering before sex necessary and never have I’ve been asked to do it. The first few times with someone new, it’s normal (at least for women) to excuse yourself to bathroom and «wipe off» and make sure everything seems fine down there, but it would be weird to take a shower. Also, most sex happen in a spur of the moment, it could ruin the mood if you have to go and take shower.

Oh, you live in the east! I can understand it now! I just couldn't get over it, why don't take a shower every day, but I didn't want to be rude. :D I mean, I am from Central Europe and we take a shower daily, in hot weather even two or three times per day. We have a little bit warmer weather like you guys, so we sweat a lot more. Now in summer, you just lay down and literally you are wet from the heat. We take a shower even before a meeting with friends or a date. So yeah, sometimes you take a shower before sex (if you didn't take one before the date), just in case and after too. Not always, but if you feel yourself dirty, sweaty or something, then you go.
And for the mood... who said that, you have to take the shower alone? :D ;)

We only have warm, humid weather like 3-4 times in the summer months (June-Aug), rest of the year it’s mostly cold and dry - and there’s a HUGE difference between summer and winter. We tend to forget most countries have «summer/spring» all year long.

Well I'm from France and I don't take a shower every time I'm having sex. I mean, I live with my boyfriend and if you have a normal life style and a normal hygiene routine, you will not smell or whatsoever. Of course, I clean myself when I feel it is a necessity but still, taking a shower before sex is a strange concept for me. Even when I was hooking up with one nigh stands, never has the subject of the shower been brought up.
I mean, if you clean yourself everyday and if you didn't do anything to make you sweat, you will not reek.

Yeah, It seems to be mostly a culture-thing that exist in some hot/humid counties.
Even on really hot (+25-35*C) summer days in Norway we only shower if we’ve been out and become really sweaty. Other than that, I bet most people shower AT LEAST every 2 or 3 days. Air condition is a very common luxury most places in Norway though, so you’ll mostly become cool while inside shops/cafes/museums/workplace.

I always get a quick shower before I go somewhere, I mean if I meet with a friend or something and go to a bar. If I know correctly, mostly my friends too. It depends how dirty feel you yourself and what did you do. In summer (here) you can get sweaty just from laying on the couch. If you are brave enough and go shopping or something, than you get a sweet shower :D In winter not a thing, but a daily shower is a must in every season. But.. if we talk about anal sex, then I think... Yeah... a shower is a must before sex. (IDK, if someone has more knowledge, feel free to educate me.) :D In normal way, I didn't think it is necessary, just like how you wrote it, depends on the situation :)

I really can't find any research that says showering before sex is unhygienic. In fact, you'd rather want to clean/shower AFTER sex to get rid of unwanted bacteria in your nether region - bacteria that'll most likely get there no matter how clean you and your partner are.
Also, if women clean too thoroughly before sex, the natural bacteria and ph in and around their vagina can be damaged, making you more prone to infections. REMEMBER: loads of the bacteria on your skin is actually helpful.
