Daddy fell in love real hard and soon she was pregnant. They must’ve known beforehand that the birth most probably would kill her and Claude was against that. After she died, he blamed the child (Athy) and became very depressed. It seems like he also went on a killing spree.
And somehow in between that Claude seems to have used black magic to numb out his feelings.
Black magic seems to always curse the user and it’s probs got something to do with Claude dying just now. But I think the curse was amplified by his bro Anastacius, which is currently hiding at Whitey's Manor.
Anastacius... idk but I think he wants to kill Claude and get rid of Athy.
Maybe that black haired guy is mix of Anastacius and Aeternitas??? But who knows?

Does it have anything to do with Claude's cold personality ? Maybe he's afraid of trusting anyone again because of them.
Also why in the Lovely Princess novel, Claude didn't accept Athy? Is it because he erased his memories with black magic that had anything to do with Diana?
I think the reason why he hates Athy in the novel and also hated her in the beginning is because in his mind she killed Diana. He loved Diana and I guess he also wanted a child but I think it was shown that someone told them Diana wouldn’t survive giving birth, so Claude wanted her to get rid of the child. She probably didn’t want to and insisted on keeping the child, thinking he would love their child just like he loved her.
In one chapter they also show Claude’s thoughts about Athy: that he wants to kill her when he sees her bc she reminds him of Diana and how she died bc of her.
So, Claude was the younger brother of the crown prince Anastacius. It seems like he didn’t receive much love as a child, seeing how his mother "took out her anger" on him or how he was always angry/sad with a frown on his face, even as a child. The only one to look after him was his brother, but Anastacius had also something kinda going on. (SPOILER) I read somewhere in the comments before that Aeternitas will also play a role in the story bc he chased Lucas or smth. So I’m guessing that Aeternitas was the one who "called" Anastacius when he looked at that wall.
Claude was probably in love with Jennette's mother (maybe that’s also the reason why he took Jennette in in the novel) and was really betrayed when she actually hit it off with his brother and they plotted something to kill Claude.
