It hurts because we are living the past relationship and see no happiness in the current one. The author is doing a great job of conveying the despair the MC is feeling.

also!! idk if it's just me but this story kinda hurts???? like if this was any other love story i'd be crying lol idk it just has that effect??? i cant explain it too well
