Emperor refuses to let Navier get remarried because he loves her (he doesn’t say this, but it’s pretty obvious; it’s basically explained at one point that he’s only divorcing her because he needs an heir and Rashta can provide one). Navier escapes with Heinley. They live happily, she gets pregnant, Emperor realizes that that means HE must have been the infertile one and Rashta’s kid isn’t his. So basically, he divorced the woman he loved for his side piece for no reason. And obviously, this discovery does not go well for Rashta.

I feel bad for Rashta’s kid, though, lol. There’s still more plot and conflict and stuff the emperor tries there, but that’s the most important stuff, I think.
The emperor’s feelings are definitely debatable (someone in the comment sections even laughed at me and said the emperor didn’t love her), but I certainly think there was love. You don’t love someone after the fact. You love them all along and then realize when it’s too late.
