Sorry to leave this one but to be honest, it's not that great to live there at all. Sure, it's nice to stay AS A TOURIST but as a resident? Many foreigners suffer from it. I have friends temporarily staying in Japan for work and they get the worst living experiences in their life: low pay enough to buy essentials (forget anime merch), costly apartments (if the workplace is somewhere in the city), and toxic working environment (yep. so rare to find a good company in Japan these days.) although it happens around the world but this country takes the cake.
Sorry but you should reconsider it. instead living there as a citizen, how about being a tourist? it's much more easier yet expensive but safe. however, if you have a plan to live there, make sure to have very high knowledge in language and history (you'll need it very much, especially working there so that you won't get publicly humiliated) or else they'll treat you like an outsider, worse, a pest (some of them are bigoted and xenophobes). also, money big enough to support your needs and small enough not to get scammed by fake banks (scamming is common there too).
