I'm asian, and we're usually nervous with foreigners especially if we're not confident in our english, i have a good grade in english class and i understand english conversation in movies, but when real foreigners talked to me (they just asked for direction) i went blank and i quickly asked my friend (who i think has better english than me) to answer them, i was just on the street when i met them but i was that nervous, mc is at work which makes the situation even more scary
Yup that comment by @blueninja89 or sth calling the mc racist for that is just wrong and moreover clearly show they are ignorant about the definition or racism and racist.. and looks like they are the prejudiced one since the comment said sth like this:

Thanks for explaining it..I do hope people will understand, cuz this thing happens a lot IRL when you travel to (not only Asian countries but also) non-English speaking countries, especially those who don't even use Alphabets..
It literally took only the effort of looking up at the dictionary and then read the chapter again to obviously see how the MC doesn't fit the definition of a racist at all.. But i guess certain people are very easy to get offended by what they read and quick to judge (￣∇￣")
Mc is not racist, he is scared of the language barrier and not understanding them and being judged for his English. This fear probably relates to a past trauma. The MC does not care about their skin color or race, once he learned they spoke korean, he wad relieved. That obviously means he is nervous about not understanding what is being said to him, rather then that they are foreigners.
