I am strongly suspicious that MC wasn't killed mainly because he was tyrannical and bad ruler, or at least not only because of it. But because his killer was obsessively in love with him, like possessive-murder kind of obsessive

So the Mc is not the brightest gold coin in the chest but I understand why jan killed him. He was abusive in his ruling so quite frankly being killed and reincarnated to his younger self is probably the best thing that happened to the prince as this time he will be aware of who is enemies are and become a good and humble king by doing the opposite of what he did before
