As someone with transgender friends, the way they treat Reí about they're gender-queerness is just not right. Rubs me off so wrong in many ways. They’ve all been friends for such a long time already in this part 2 of the series, don’t be that surprised about Reí going into the woman’s restroom. And stop telling her to wear pants because she’s “a boy.” No! Fucking stop that! Let her be whoever she wants to be and let her wear her fucking skirts!

Edit: anybody who dislikes this comment is transphobic and queerphobic

    Wait she's transgender?..
I thought he liked dressing up in girl clothes...

Rei does say they are a girl at heart at one point but they never actually make it clear if they are transgender or just transvestite. In the first volume Rei is transvestite, meaning pronouns are still he/him. Rei even says in the first volume that they are a boy. But I agree, it does rub me a bit wrong. Also I don't think Yamada meant any harm in what he said, although I do think it could be harmful.

    fictional story. not real life.

also in Japan the LGBT community and homosexuality are almost nonexistent.

Ummm that’s very false. Japan celebrates pride and there are in fact gay communities there. Although small, the LGBTQ+ community in Tokyo is in fact one of the biggest in all of Asia. The thing with japan is that they are way more conservative and prejudice than in the West, thus gay and trans people there are very much hidden and rarely come out to their families/friends. Japan does have their own LGBTQ+ center/organization for Japanese people. They’ve also legalized same sex marriage, although only in one specific location which is at the Tokyo Disney Resort in Urayasu, Chiba. Just becuz they are a more prejudice country doesn’t mean there aren’t gay or trans people there. I suggest you inform yourself a little bit before you say stuff like that

And fiction reflects real life. Don’t disregard the value of real life in fiction just becuz they are made up stories. It’s offensive to say that

I agree. The thing is, they’ve been friends with Reí for a really long time now, it shouldn’t be “weird” to them that Reí goes into the woman’s bathroom. Also, it’s just plain wrong to enforce a gender queer person to wear clothes pertaining to their biological sex. That’s just rude and wrong. Also, clothes never have anything to do with gender. Let people wear whatever the fuck they want and let them express themselves freely

I never said clothing had anything to do with gender. However you’re going to tell me in 2012 people would be saying the same thing? Because that’s when this was written and people wouldn’t. Especially customs officials checking your gender on your identification.

"almost nonexistent" is not the same as "does not existent". i am well aware that the LGBT community exists in Japan, but as you said, it is very rare and very hidden. and just because one resort in one city legalized gay marriage does not mean the country itself acknowledges the decision. if it does cool, but i doubt it.

I never said you said that about clothing. Sorry if it came off that way. Jesus Christ, no need to come at me like that. I was just saying that as a statement. Also, the time of this specific chapter coming out wasn’t in 2012, it would be around 2017. The manga may have started out in 2012, but this chapter didn’t get released in 2012. I’m just saying. Of course gender queer people would be aware of customs, but I was simply saying that their own friends who accept them as they are, shouldn’t tell them to wear clothes pertaining to their sex becuz it just comes off wrong, you know?

I see where you’re coming from, but it’s still part of the law, whether people agree with it or not. But either way, it’s still pretty disrespectful to say Japan’s LGBTQ+ community is almost nonexistent becuz with that kind of language, you are disregarding those who are in the closet and making it seem as if they don’t count. As a sexually queer person myself, I didn’t appreciate you saying that. Just to further clarify my intent with my words
