Help find a story please

I was hoping you guys could help me find a story. It's about these 2 boys who meet walking home school and they are following a line and are daydreaming themselves as hero's in a story. They do this many times until they become friends Then they grow older become a couple until they break up because one the guys wants a traditional relationship with a wife and keeps but they divorce. And then he meets his old boyfriend/friend again on a trip and get back together and then they grow old together.
