I just re-read the whole thing and I think that the corpse might be one of the robbers. The little chef was in the kitchen when they attempted to steal golden apples. He opened the window then and went out. It's unknown if he closed that window or not, so one of the robbers might have sneaked in to hide and... well died in that barrel. That's my theory ╮(￣▽￣)╭
maybe the tiny little foxes were trying to help him by masking the scent ? So maybe they used and hid intruders body? Since they did they say "why didnt you lie" ? Maybe? ┑(° . °)┍
