Yes she is but nothing really happens between them. I mean yeah the long haired girl saw him jump into the river to save his friend, and then acknowledged him at school, which made him a target of the bullies, and then he and his friend was forced and beat up, which occurred unbeknownst to her. She didn’t intend for it to happen, and it’s the bullies to blame. She was just glad to see him again. Though I agree it was poor oversight on her behalf by giving unwanted attention to him since he is 1) a new kid 2) looks weak. An unfortunate plot point to introduce her character and set up the major conflict (revenge).

though she was forced and beaten up, no rape occurred. his other glasses/freckle friend saved her in time by calling the police.
