I just don't know if his love for Shuli is really romantic or if he is trying to replace his late mother?
Yes it was, most of it was the cardinal’s work but it was put into play because of the prince’s plan to woo the lady, that we have to assume he “loves”, by using her child’s longing for a book. Which is utterly hideous.
oh it's definitely a replacement thing. he has a weird mommy complex. i think one character mentioned something about him collecting parents like when he got Nora's on his side and then Shuli was absolutely perfect since she looked exactly like his mom

Exactly! He is lacking the motherly attention and warmth that Jeremy has so now he wants that and it seems he’ll still keep using this situation to his advantage.
this was definitely planned by the priest he was the only who saw them also how is it possible the guards got there so fast when no one was around?? also pretty weird for the guards not to follow the Prince in the first place ....
