I think that haebom reminds him of himself. He isn't a rich kid probably and had to work hard to keep the job. Maybe that?
Besides that i think, that he is reallllyyy insecure in his relationship with that girl, since she earns a lot and also gives him expensive presents, which he can't buy with his salary. He probably feels bad about it.
So i think that he got curious why haebom would buy a gift (which is cheaper) from that shop and still be optimistic about the fact that his gift will be accepted gladly... Maybe like that?
