Thoughts!

I agree with you but the reason I am upset with the FL is because of one simple reason, a way to end all of it. Just talk. She never talks to anyone or asks questions and assumes. You're right, she doesn't know the duke that well, because every time he's tried to talk to her she runs away. He can't even say 'Good morning' before she runs our of the room. She assumed that he was this person who only wants to hurt her but he has been nothing than nice to her. He's even trying to change himself so that she would just TALK to him. 'No one told her otherwise,' right, because she never asked. Everyone thought that she was aware of the dukes feelings. Everyone in this story is trying to talk to her but she never gives them a chance and lives off of her assumptions. She's known this prophecy for years but has yet to tell anyone about it. Yes, I understand that she is being cautious and I understand why she didn't talk to the duke but why not her family?! Even if it was still years after it happened, telling her family would have helped the situation and calm her down. She expects to live a normal life but if you are continuously ignoring your fiance and acting mean towards him and his femald friend who just wants to be friends with you, your life isn't going to be normal. Its going to be 10x harder because now everyone thinks you're crazy and evil. She's hurting so many people's feelings and confusing others because she's living on opinions and not facts. So many things could have been solved already if she just talked to someone, anyone, and she never does! Thats what annoys me about her.

Of course at first she ran away from the ML bc she was sure that he would kill him, just as you said. But my point was that she changed. She came to understand that maybe He won’t kill her. But you see I don’t agree that “No one told her bc she never asked” bc let’s say you meet someone who has a golden ring on their ring finger. You would assume that they are married. And another thing she didn’t have to ask if there was something going on with the Duke and serenia bc she didn’t care. And she doesn’t have to. She wasn’t in love with the Duke so why should she care that he has a girlfriend. I mean it came down to the Duke to explain things bc he was the only one in love. I agree with not talking to the family about the prophecy. But I also understand that maybe she didn’t tell bc she didn’t want to worry them. She thought she could simply fix it by living calmly and normally and I don’t think that hurts anyone. You see I don’t think she was trying to be mean. And she had that mental image of the cold Serenia bc Serenia destroyed her friend in front of everyone. This gave Serenia the ruthless image FL got and I agree that Serenia was way too rude. Maybe everything would be solved if she just talked with people, but you see she doesn’t know them. She is just getting close to them. Why should she or anyone else tell their whole life story from the first meeting? They don’t have to and personally I would never do that.

I can get behind almost ecerything you said. But personally, I don't think she did change. Yes, she may have changed her opinion on him but she herself has not developed. She still keeps everyone at double arms length and still doesn't talk to anyone and lives by her assumptuons. She may not see him as a threat but she isn't trying to get to know him as anything else. Like I understand that she doesn't have feelings for him yet but if I'm going to be married to someone, I at least want to be friends with them. Its not like the duke is pushing her away, he's trying to get at least a talking relationship started but she's not. Like is she planning on avoiding him the entirety of this marriage? And you say its the duke job to explain...lets be honest; he isn't the sharpest tool in the shed when it comes to this subject. He doesn't even realize people think he and Serina are like that so he doesn't know that he has to explain to her that they're not. Hence "What does Serina have to do with this?" And Serina...I'm not sure what you're talking about. Like she destroyed her friend? What chapter is this cause I obvioulsy forgot that. (I don't know if that sounds rude or not but I genuinely mean I don't remember it so seriously, what chapter?) But to be fair she is trying to get a friendly relationship with FL...the female doesn't need to be friends with her but I'm assuming Serina is just really lonley and saw a woman who's in a similar situation as her and thought this could be her first female friend since she got to this world without realizing what FL was actually thinking.

I enjoy the story a lot and I like the female lead, I was just saying talking would literally solve everything. Ever heard of the Anime/Manga 'Gamers!'? People literally call it 'Misuderstanding' the anime cause everything would be solved if they talked and explained stuff but never does and it leads to a whole lot of misuderstandings. The difference between that series and SLoRL is I thought Gamers! was funny...this just makes me pity everyone.

The Male lead may not be the sharpest tool in the shed but he himself said “What are you doing to my partner?” Like in front of everyone. This is the same chapter (Chapter 2) in which Serenia embarrassed FL’s friend in front of everyone. Which I understand that she was trying to protect herself bc she didn’t start the argument but this still gave her the cold, cruel look to her. But you see this changed bc now they are becoming friends! They are starting know each other and they even call each other by their first names! You say she didn’t change when she obviously did, so I don’t understand what you consider as change.

I never heard of that Anime/manga but I also don’t see why these two would be similar? Bc there is only one and maybe two (if you really squint) misunderstandings in this whole manhwa. First one is obviously the relationship between ML and Serenia (once again even though he isn’t the brightest he still said “what are you doing to my partner?” in front of everyone so he basically created the misunderstanding in the first place and it’s still up-to him to fix it) and the second misunderstanding could be...hmm the wizard? I mean the prophecy as maybe all this time she misunderstood it as she would literally die (though I don’t think so as the wizard was very ominous when he said this). So yeah! There are like two misunderstandings and I don’t see why anyone should be pitiable?

Ohhh a verbal fight, my dumbself over here thought you meant a physical one. But...I went back to reread chapter two and...are you talking about the girl who slapped her?! Cause no, she deserved that. She literally came up to woman who she had never met, slapped her and called her a worthless woman with worthless background....I think Serina has the right to tell her off. Serina wasn't the rude one, that chick did that to herself.

I also saw where the duke said 'What are you doing to my partner." And once again...he's just stupid. Knowing him, he probably ment fighting partner or ball dance partner and lets be honest, he probably doesn't even remember that happened. I do agree that its still his job to clear things up, I'm just saying he doesn't realize that there is anything to clear up. As far as he's concerned, the woman who he asked to marry him agreed to marry him and then comes to the house, seems to hate him and run away from him. If you look at it that way, if I was him I would be confused to. And you said there are only 2 misunderstandings in the manhwa but there are much more. Yes, those are the two major misunderstandings but those two lead to small little ones. For example, when he tried to give her gifts; she thought she was being poisned or when Serina was trying to become friends with her, she thought she was being threatened. The whole manhwa is littered with these situations where someone comes to her with the intent of kindness and she somehow twist it around to be the exact opposite. Another thing that people seem to forget is the first misunderstanding, the marriage itself. Her father saod that if she ever wanted to break the engagment, she could. Of course she doesn't know this because he didn't tell her but if she went up and talked to her father about how she felt and that she didn't want to get married, then he would have never let her. If that 1 conversation happened, she wouldn't have been in this situation. And I'm not saying that she should have been the one start this conversation but thats the problem. No one talks but because we follow the FL who is from our world, we expect her to make the most logical decisions. But because of that conversation she had with the oricale, she...how do I say this...is paranoid(?) She constantly runs away from people who she doesn't know but sees them as a threat, she doesn't trust a lot of people and is not close witg a lot of people. Not even her family, she doesn't talk to her father about how she feels and even in the first chapter, she never realized how attached her siblings were to her.

You say that shes changed a lot but I honestly don't see it. Like I said her perspective of people may have changed but I don't see anything different about her than from the start of the manhwa, like she still acts and think relatively the same...in fact, it sometimes feels like she got colder. Oh also, when I meant pity, I don't find them pitiful I find the situation pitful. Like, when she was misunderstanding the gifts or when he thought she hated him it made me go, "Damn...thats tough," cause he's trying but just not getting it. I like this story, I just find it ironic that literally none of this would happen if people just talked lol.

Oh I definitely agree that the purple haired lady had that coming for her but still like the FL said its politics. By twisting her words as something they weren’t she ended her maybe whole social life and you know I just thought that it was kind of extreme as even though she was in the wrong it was inevitable, someone else would do the same bc Serenia is an unknown factor in the high social class. No one knows if she is even a commoner or not and the bourgeoisie are highly protective of their position. Even though the purple haired girl probably didn’t think that I think everyone else would. And now no one else will talk to her bc Serenia made it out as purple was questioning the royal family’s decision.

Now that you said it yes there are a lot of small misunderstandings and I totally agree with you that our FL is paranoid. She came into this world hoping to do better, to live better. But all of her dreams were brutally crushed bc of the wizard. That’s why she is paranoid. And I think she can’t just change that easily. If you live your whole life thinking that one day you’ll die bc of something, you’d get overly conscious of that thing. If the prophet had said “you’ll die in a car crash” she’d be thinking about her death whenever she was in a car, heck maybe she wouldn’t ever step inside a car. And this paranoia made her distant and self absorbed. She ignored her siblings without meaning to bc she always focused on that thought of staying alive. She twists their kind intentions bc in her mind they aren’t kind. She doesn’t know these people and all she knows about them is that they can kill her. I say that she is changed bc she is no longer afraid of that prophecy. She believes that she can change her fate now! And she is getting a lot more closer with her siblings and family! That’s change in my books.

I agree that if her father could have just asked her everything would have been easier but he didn’t bc he wanted the Duke to prove himself. And FL didn’t ask for the cancellation bc she always (from the beginning) thought that this engagement wouldn’t last. That it was temporary already so why does she need to make a fuss? She doesn’t.

I don’t agree that the duke is so very confused bc FL agreed to marry him but is now distant, I think he is confused bc she seems to have a lot of emotional baggage. This was a political marriage from the beginning. The duke talked with FL’s father and they decided to get these two married. FL didn’t object bc sooner or later she would have to marry and it didn’t matter who it was. But after learning that it was the Duke she knew that this engagement wouldn’t last bc of Serenia. And you see she didn’t read this story or that she woke up to the world she read in a book. This was just an average fantasy romance novel to her. All of the same things would happen: a girl would appear, the duke would save her, the two would fall in love, done! There is no need for anyone to be between them, heck anyone that came in between them could die (that’s why she is suspicious of everything, bc she is paranoid bc she is expecting to die by their hands)

Once again I agree that none of this would happen if everyone just talked, but even in real life no one ever tells each other everything. She didn’t tell her family about the prophecy bc she didn’t want to worry them and thought that she could fix it by doing nothing. She didn’t tell Serenia that she was from another world bc their worlds were different. She didn’t know the time Serenia lived and so didn’t Serenia. (I honestly thought that Serenia was kind of hmm not dumb but slightly dumb bc she told the FL everything but I also understand her reasoning. She is in an unknown world all alone and this lady might know about what happened to her! While FL knows the basic reasoning of stuff but not everything)

Maybe it’s just me but I think she is breaking years of brainwashing. That might seem extreme but the wizard doesn’t need to repeat it over and over again for it to be brainwashing, she is doing that herself bc she can’t help it. I recently watched a video about kidnapping survivors and the lady there said that everyone could be manipulated, even if you just bought something bc someone else told you it was nice that’s still being manipulated even though its on a smaller scale. The lady in that video was brainwashed from a young age into thinking that if she didn’t birth a child when she was 16 something horrible would happen to the world and so she decided to kill herself before that, but she became suspicious in that last moments. She decided to test, to do something her captives said she couldn’t do and see if something horrible really did happen, it didn’t! She broke years of brainwashing and manipulation by herself and that’s really hard to do. I don’t know if this was an extreme example but it just gave me a newer perspective to look at FL. Breaking of years of paranoia, of the thought that you’ll die if you do anything extreme would be quite hard. But she did that! On their engagement day! She yelled at the wizard! That he can no longer control her or her future! Once again that’s change in my books!

Ps: I don’t know if you’d agree but I’m having a great time talking and discussing with you. I don’t see this as a competition to see who’s right or wrong like “haha! It’s as I say, you’re wrong!” I don’t see it like that. It’s really nice to hear your thoughts on my thoughts. If there is any other manhwa you wish to discuss (and that I already read or am reading) let me know if you want to!

Alrighty then! I think we just came to a middle ground of agreement! I mean I still think purple chick totally had it coming because, yeah other people would have said that but other peole wouldn't have introduced themselves by slapping her out of jealously! Like seriously, thats how you gonna give your first impression?! We shluld be lucky Serina didn't slap her back (then people would really have a reason to be scared of her) Eh, everything else I can understand but I will say I never thought of brainwashing...I always kinda just saw her as someone with PTSD but I know that its a sensitive topic with people and I didn't want to lable her like that incase the symptoms were wrong. And you know what, its sad because with her personality she would have been like one of the coolest FL in manhwa's because she started learning swordsmanship and magic in the when she was younger and then *boom* Oracle dude came along and ruined everything! (╯°Д °)╯╧╧ but I do think she's one of the most realistic if the author is trying to portray PTSD or brainwashing inside her character because when you go through things like that, it is hard to break those bad habits because its your way of protecting yourself.

And yes! This was so fun! I love doing debates like this and I read a lot of manhwa's and webtoons just like this. To name a few (Suddenly Became a Princess, Abandoned Empress, The Villainess Reverses the Hourglass, Beware of the Villainess (Two of my favorites of the moment) and A Witch's Hopeless Wish) add in like...80 more and you got my whole collection ....yh I have a problem, don't need to tell me but pick one and we could definitly debate something on one.

I love love love Suddenly became a princess one day & Beware of the villainess. I also like abandoned empress and the empress reverses the hourglass. The only one I hadn’t read was A witch's hopeless wish but I’ll certainly take a look. You can choose whichever you want but I don’t think I would say anything too negative about the first two bc they are my favorites and I love everything about them. I don’t have a topic to focus on and discuss that comes to mind right now so if you do have something on mind feel free to say so. I also like remarried empress and I choose the emperor ending. And uhh I don’t remember the name but brown haired girl comes to past with telephone and the male lead is red haired. Ob! And I love love love the emperor and the female knight (I’m not sure if that was the complete name) and I’m in love with Pauliana, so yeah do let me know if you have a topic and I’ll do the same if I think of something :)

Omg yes yes yes!! I highly recommend A Witch's Hopeless Wish, its sooo good but I started I Choose the Emperor Ending but never finished for some reason but I'll start it again. And I loove Remarried Empress and Emperor and the Female Knight. I already know how both is going to end but I'm reading RE just to see Trashita suffer and EaFK because I simp for Paul. Like, I'm not gay but if Paul asked me to be her wife, I am NOT saying no. Also, a manhwa I love to rant about is I Became the Villains Mother(?) the FL is starting grow on me but she could use a lot of development imo...

Omg Lucas or Ijekiel uhh it’s hard bc I loved the baby Ijekiel but then he became smug. I really don’t like sadistic smug characters but I don’t think he’ll turn out that way so I guess my heart is with Ijekiel but Lucas...I love Lucas but at the same time I feel like we don’t know him yet (I mean duh he is hundreds of years old and never explained his past) so for now...just for now Ijekiel (and even though I don’t actually hate the brown haired girl I...I felt so satisfied when Ijekiel rejected her) how about you? Lucas or Ijekiel?

I am whole heartedly a Lucas fan. Even though we don't know a lot about him, he is just the enbodiment of my type of character (fictional wise) He's snarky and funny even though the main characters may not think that they care a lot, they worry about them the most. He's like a mixture of Karma from Assasination Classroom and Hak from Yona of the Dawn (Two of my favorite male characters ever) so of course I'm in love with him and finding out his past is just gonna mame me love him more.

Ijekiel, I don't hate him but I don't love him. I have this thing where I can't stand if charcaters, usually the second male lead, get so confident to the point they start to think that the FL is theirs already. Like the Library scene when they were younger. Even though then he was just trying to be friends, I guess, she said it was her library and asked him to leave and it took Lucas for this man to dip. Like she asked one, she shouldn't have to ask again. And that scene when he tried ti confess

Omg yes that library scene made me so angry like, hello? Who do you think you are? Literally, why would you do that? But after that I think he understood his boundaries and backed off instead of pushing so I like that he changed.

I want to get to know Lucas more! See more of him!

Btw I forgot to mention! There are like 40 manhwas but they are not my top 40 like I really hate some of those...but yeah!
