I really like to see a culture without the lense of orientalism.
1) are men unable to spend the night with someone without marrying them? That is such a foreign idea to me
2) was it the king who wanted that?(I'm asking cause I really don't remember) wasn't it the ministers cause they wanted to assassinate him?

For no 1, YES. Islam VALUE women as much as men epsecially their dignity. Islam forbidden Muslim (islamic people) to do intercourse without marriage first. Of course , you may heard Muslim people who done *that* but please know that is it not how Islam work. Although it may sound foreign to some, but it is one of the ways for Islam to protect the dignity of women and also men tbh.

What do you mean by orientalism? Btw, there are many islamic country with different culture and so does the royalty. Im not sure about Oman, but in Malaysia, Brunei, and Indonesia, muslim and non muslim live in harmony. You may heard about war in middle east and i have no comment regarding that since i do not know much. Lets just say, not all perform the *true* Islam. Islam love peace.
And not all people in middle east are Muslim. And i do know that their royalty have lots of fortune because of oil. Some. Not all of them.
As per the Quran intercourse before marriage and killing another human is Haram (forbidden) before marriage for Muslims and it would be even more important for the leader or the king to follow the rules to put an example for his people so, I don't think any Sultan irl would do something like this because if he does his rendezvous come to light one day he could lose the popular opinion and be deposed.
Idk if making this kind of story would attract people but involving religion without studying it first is rude. It's a freaking Islamic country, y would the sultan have the son spend a night with women bfr a marriage Σ(っ°Д °;)っ and kill ugh don't get me started with that.
