but that would mean he would have to acknowledge how he was raised and everything that was done to him was shit,, it's not easy for abuse victims to often realize they've been abused or how they in turn abuse others.

Yes but even if it takes forever he needs to know hes not exactly being a good father. And is doing shitty things
to be fair, if he didnt do those things his son would die from poison or assassinations. he's not the best father but they dont live in the best environment. i think they should have a better relationship, but that would insinuate that they live in a decent environment that could actually cultivate that.
That's fine an all but id still feel more satisfied with him still acknowledging his a shit father in the end. Just my opinion
eventually, I think he’d realise that he’s lacking as a father figure in many ways in the end..and he’ll shower both of them with love. he’ll fix his way of treating him, he’ll of course realise that he’s not the ideal father but he’s not the worst either (it’s a different story if he’s ill natured, has ulterior motives when he trains his son, abuses his kidbut he doesnt right?). amazing thing also the son is really mature, he understood why he did that. he even drank the poison again coz he knows it’s still dangerous out there. props to the son also. the father didnt receive love you know, so that’s a really big factor as to why he’s doing this. and his training was much harsher than his son’s..but tbh, I still want him to be strict when it comes to his son’s training coz I want them to be strong and survive in that kind of environment. take note that the environment and circumstances they’re living in is so different with the commoners. that’s why they had to do this. not saying the way he educates his son is right but they literally had no choice..
I want him to acknowledge he's a shit father before they go all lovey dovey
